Turkey – exoticism on the slope
Skiing in Turkey? It is no longer a surprising winter holiday destination. You can reach Erzu-rum a ski capital of the region (with 380 000 citizens) by plane. Erzurum international airport was built there and it is close to modern ski stations in the Pontic Mountains. Winter Compe-tition took place here in 2011 and one year later Juniors Nordic Skiing World Cup.
The most famous ski resort is Palandöken located only 5 km from Erzurum. There are 9 ski lifts with 2 cable cars, 22 ski runs and FIS slalom among them which take you up to 2200-3200m above sea level. A winter season lasts here from December to May. Continental climate makes snow dry and fine which is perfect for skiers. Another modern ski resort is located 20 km from Erzurum. Konaklı Alp Disiplini Kayak Tesisi was built for Winter Competition needs with its 6 chairlifts and interesting ski runs. Those skiers who are passionate about speed occupy a giant slalom trail where you can be like a famous Herminator, Hermann Maier.
