Bansko – the birth of a star
Bulgaria – besides the Black Sea seaside and its beautiful beaches it offers excellent ski slopes. Those who like big-city gloss will choose Vitosh a mountain massif in the neighbor-hood of Sofia. A cable car, a snowpark and chairlifts are waiting for amateur and profession-al skiers and for ski champions.
The Czech Republic – now one ski pass only
At our other south neighbors, means Czechs, there are 4500 km of ski runs in more than 200 ski resorts. The most famous of them is certainly Špindlerův Mlýn in Krkonoše (Gigant Mountains) located 2 hours drive from Prague. There are 25 km of ski runs, several T-bar lifts, four chairlifts, and a big snowpark for sowboarders. There are much more places in Czech were you can snowboard.
Vallnord and Grandv alira – Pirenees groove in winter
Principality of Andorra has changed into a great ski resort. There are snow-capped slopes with its modern chain of ski lifts. It is windy here sometimes but most of the time the weather is really good. It is a pleasure to ski down among picturesque scenery of Pirenees. If you are bored with skiing you can try a team of dogs, a snowmobile, snowshoeing or a shopping in a duty free zone. Andorra attracts more and more Polish ski lovers every year what is fostered by cheap flights from Barcelona by Wizz Air or Ryanair.
Maso Corto – a Polish island
This small village which is located in Tridento Alto Adige, a part of south Tirol, was discovered by many skiers from Poland. The place situated at the bottom of Hochjoch iceberg (3280 m above sea level) at 2000 m guarantees snow-covered slopes throughout all year. There is an interesting quarter pipe for those who love half-pipe, telemark and curving runs and even when there is hospitable wind you can fly a hang-glide with skies. Maso Corto is a resort not only for competitive sportsmen.
Dolomiti Superski – an Italian carousel
It is the largest ski region in the world where you can ski using only one skipass. It is located in Trentino Alto Adige region in the north part of Italy. More and more Poles come there every year. There is nothing surprising that in the region there are 450 ski lifts and more than 1200 km of ski runs at the bottom of majestic Dolomite. If you have a Dolomiti Superski pass you can go to Val di Fassa to a town called Moena or Val di Fiemme. There are free of charge shuttle buses for skiers.
Slovakian Tatra Mountains – new attractions at our neighbor
Even though that Tatras are not too high mountains they can compete with the Alps. The Slovaks prepared a lot of conveniences for a winter season for example: new ski lifts, skiing schools, plenty of snow cannons, free of charge parking lots at ski lift stations. The most important investment this year is a connection of north and south Chopok slopes (2024 m above sea levels) by modern 24 person and 15 person cable cars. You can use all seven biggest Slovakian ski resorts having one electronic pass Slovakia Super Skipass.
Turkey – exoticism on the slope
Skiing in Turkey? It is no longer a surprising winter holiday destination. You can reach Erzu-rum a ski capital of the region (with 380 000 citizens) by plane. Erzurum international airport was built there and it is close to modern ski stations in the Pontic Mountains. Winter Compe-tition took place here in 2011 and one year later Juniors Nordic Skiing World Cup.
Sankt Moritz – Swiss pearl
Visiting Sankt Moritz is like a therapy in the best SPA resort. The sun shines here 322 days in a year and wholesome power of local water was known 3000 years ago. As the Swiss say here you can heal your heart, soul and body. Luxurious hotels like Kulm Hotel St. Moritz, Carlton Hotel St. Moritz, Kempinski Grand Hotel des Basins or Badrutt’s Palace are a visiting card of the area. The hotels send rolls-royce cars with a chauffeur to pick up their guests.
Three Valleys – 600km of winter sports
Les Trois Vallées (Three Valleys), The French joke that the place is the biggest ski circus. There are 600 km of smooth and wide runs which are connected by chains of ski lifts so you ski without unbuckling skies. All around there are monumental and taking a breath away Alps. The heart of Three Valleys is Méribel, which adjoins famous ski resorts: Courchevel and Val Thorens. There are 40 cable cars (a part of them is renewed) which are called “bubbles” by French and “eggs” by British.
